What is File Wrapper Estoppel ?
This Blog is intended for inventors, engineers, scientists and product development managers. As such most of us are not schooled in the arcane language of the legal profession. Be that as it may, we still at times need to read and decipher legal opinions and documents. Thus it would be useful to have a Patent Glossary handy by.
Patent Glossary Links:
1. List of patent legal concepts in Wikipedia *****
2. Patent Glossary by Brown & Michaels ****
3. Understanding "Patentese" in JOM ***
Further review of the above links are given below.
The glossary from Wikipedia is very good. It lists all the essential patent concepts in a tabular form with the appropriate succinct definitions. Best of all if you want to know more about a particular concept it also provide a link to a detail discussion about that concept.
The patent law firm of Brown & Michaels has created a comprehensive patent glossary explained in simple layman's language as to what these terms mean. Many of the terms are routinely used by patent attorneys and it would be helpful to understand these terms so that your communication with your patent attorney would be more efficient.
Another Patent Glossary list is also available in an article of all places from The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society's monthly journal (JOM).
Both glossaries are very good, but I prefer the one from Brown & Michaels because the layout is better and further more there are hyperlinks to other articles, particularly the How to... articles are quite informative.
May I suggest that you look up the following terms and I have hyperlinked them for your convenience:
PHOSITA Have fun with this one!
